Weekly Breather: Mundane Hope
Take a deep breath. Inhale deeply while counting to five. Exhale while counting to five.
Continue to inhale and exhale deeply and begin to pay attention to your surroundings. How does your clothing feel on your skin? How does it feel sitting in your seat? Do you feel any tension or pain?
Offer all these things up to God. Now pay attention to your thoughts. Do not try to guide them in a certain direction. Allow them to come as they will. Offer each one to God. If any of them trouble you, ask Jesus to carry those burdens.
Conclude by inhaling and exhaling deeply. Gently open your eyes and say Amen.
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
Do you ever feel like you’re not good enough? It was lowly, despised shepherds who were the first to receive the message that Jesus was born. While the world may consider you the least, what does this Scripture say about that?
What do you sense God might be inviting you to?
Inhale and exhale slowly several times.
Spend some time surrendering any thoughts, anxieties, frustrations that tempt you to believe you can’t be good enough for God. You can surrender these thoughts by saying out loud, “Jesus, I surrender _______ into your hands.”
Spend some time quietly listening for what the Lord would like to say to you.
Thank Jesus for the gifts He has given you through this time.
