The Weekly Breather: Giving Others to God

Settle Yourself: Release

Take a deep breath. What is on your mind? What dominates your thoughts? Are any tasks left undone, or are there any worries in the forefront of your mind? Place them at the feet of Jesus and ask Him to guard over them for this time. Breathe slowly and deeply, letting the peace of the Holy Spirit wash over you.

Listen: Rest in the Word

Read this Scripture through slowly. As you read, jot down any words or phrases that stand out to you. Ask God what message He would like you to receive. Read the passage through a second time, listening for an invitation God has for you. Write it down.

Psalm 139:13-18

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.

Consider This

Have you been taking care of another person or have someone on your mind, about whom you have been worrying? Do you bear a burden for another? Read our passage again. Reflect on how God feels about that person. He loves the person more than any human could. He wants what is best for all of us, including the person who is on your mind. Is it time to place that person into God’s hands and stop bearing the burden of worry?

Father, help me to entrust ______ into your hands. I know you love him/her more than me, and want what is best for both of us. Help me to trust your love for that person and release my worry to You, so that I may live freely and lightly.
